The Commanding Officer, Helicopter Engineering Wing, Lieutenant Colonel Samuel K. Macharia recently officially closed the three-week Flight Technicians Course conducted from the month of August to September 2026. The course brought together Class One Technicians, from Corporal to Warrant Officer Class One, drawn from Airframe and Engines, Electrical and Instrumentation, and Radio/Radar trades.
The training strengthened participants’ technical competence, leadership skills and professional understanding of Flight Technician responsibilities. Key areas included fault diagnosis, troubleshooting and rectification of aircraft systems, Crew Resource Management, technical documentation, aviation fuel SOPs, dangerous goods regulations, leadership and management.
The programme also reinforced the importance of technical integrity, discipline, precision and strict adherence to approved maintenance procedures in safeguarding aircraft serviceability and airworthiness. Addressing the participants, Lt Col Macharia urged them to embrace continuous learning and professional development, noting that the evolving nature of aviation demands constant adaptation.
The training contributes to KAF’s broader objective of developing a technically proficient and resilient workforce capable of sustaining aircraft availability, enhancing aviation safety and delivering mission-ready air power.
